The second source is the text by Franciscan friar Petrus Olai of Roskilde. This record depicts a battle of 1208 near Fellin during King Estdemar II's Estonian campaign. The Danes were all defeated when a sheepskin banner depicted a white cross falling from the sky and led to a miraculous victory of Denmark. A banner with a white cross on red is claimed to have been used by Danish kings since the 14th century. A legend of origin has had a significant impact on Danish national history that connected introduced the flag with the Battle of Lindanise in 1219.
